'Out of Contact' Sono Foreign Player Stokes, Referred to KBL Restructuring Committee

Foreign player Janelle Stokes, who had promised to play with professional basketball team Goyang Sono for the 2024-2025 season but suddenly cut off contact, has been referred to the KBL Finance Committee.

The KBL announced on the 13th, "We will hold the 2nd Financial Committee of the 30th term at 3 PM on the 19th regarding Janelle Stokes' breach of contract."

According to KBL, Sono requested that the KBL consider whether to discipline Stokes for not keeping his agreement with the team.

Sono has been undergoing training in Taipei, Taiwan since the 11th. Stokes, who was scheduled to join them at Gimpo International Airport on the same day, did not show up at the agreed location.

It has been reported that the player's side is of the opinion that more time is needed before joining the team.

However, after repeatedly postponing the time of joining and not 스포츠 showing up even at the final agreed time, Sono decided to replace the foreign player.

Stokes, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, is a big man with a height of 201 cm and a weight of 115 kg.

He was selected 35th overall in the 2014 NBA Draft and played in a total of 28 games for the Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, and Denver Nuggets.

He played in the Chinese professional basketball league from 2017 to 2020, but left the court for a while to pursue his film business. It is said that the reason he postponed joining was that he needed time to sort out his personal business.

If Stokes is disciplined in this financial committee, it will create obstacles for other clubs when considering Stokes as a replacement foreign player.

Chinanu Onaaku, who plays for Wonju DB this season, was suspended for two seasons after not joining DB after signing a new contract in 2020.

If the KBL unilaterally terminates a contract due to a player's fault, the player will be referred to the Financial Committee for disciplinary action.

Daquavis Tucker, who unilaterally terminated his contract after being drafted by the Eastern (now DB) in 2015, was disciplined as a 'loss of player eligibility'.

However, in the case of Stokes, it is uncertain whether he will be suspended like Onuaku, as the player registration process at the KBL level has not been neatly concluded.

Sono is pushing to recruit another foreign player to replace Stokes and take charge of the goal alongside Alan Williams for the 2024-2025 season.
